There just seems to be something about the cars that I own that makes them decide now is the time for expensive repairs. That now is whenever I get it serviced.
This time there were a few things wrong with it. Namely, an oil leak in the cam and crank shafts and the rocker covers. Apologies to all mechanics who are reading this if I've just offended you by either a) speeling any of that wrong or b) used shaft incorrectly. Because the leak is in the seals for those things. And then there was the rear brakes which are leaking and therefore need to be rebuilt. All in all, given the couple of other things that were wrong with the car that needed to be done I was given a quote of $1,316 by the dealer. After thinking about that I decided I wanted a second opinion. So I told them just to do the service and I'll do the rest when I can. Which is tomorrow at a place just down the road for much cheaper. They should be able to fix all the problems in the car for much cheaper then originally quoted by the dealer plus I can get a new tyre fitted at the same time.
Which brings me to the next good thing. I have been doing my research, and for a decent price there are two recommended tyres. Recommended by MX-5 drivers anyway. The Yokohama C.Drive series and the Bridgestone Potenza GIII's. As the place where I'm getting all the work done seemed to deal exclusively in Yokohama I was thinking about them. But when I got the car back this afternoon I noticed that the wheels it has already are G3s, the exact same ones as recommended. Which means I may be able to buy just 1 instead of 2 tyres at best, or 2 at the worst. And maintain the same tread type on all four tyres on the car, which is just fantastic really.
So all in all, everything is coming up Millhouse. I'll keep all you avid readers posted on just how it all turns out. But I can say that the car is driving much better now the spark plugs have been replaced, has made a very noticeable difference. Can't wait for all 4 tyres to be proper ones so I can really "test" it out.

Ack! Not good. You seem reasonably chipper about it all though so I guess in the end if your car ends up better for it, which it sounds like it will!, then it is all worth doing.
The only real test is if it can can you from "A" to "B" safely and on time.
Everything else is just icing on the cake.
Unfortunately too many people are concerened with the icing :-)
