Wireless networking

Hmmm.

I work in IT. I have an IT degree. I have google. Why will my wireless network not behave? The best that google can come up with is that it's "up to environmental conditions". Which is a crock. I keep losing connection and then finding it again. So I moved the cordless phone, changed the channel, unplugged the mobile phone charger, changed the encryption type as well and moved the Access Point. So I get a lot stronger signal that doesn't drop out as often. But as often is not good enough. So I'm going to go with it's the channel, so I'm going to try changing that to other values and see how I go. So far I know channel 6 is dodgy as. Drops out a humungous amount of the time on that. Channel 1 which it is on atm seems to be holding strong. Hasn't dropped out for a while.

Or I could just get a decent length ethernet cable. That would also do the trick. But then there would be wires, and it would be so much better if I can get this working without wires. Plus then my Wii (when I get it) will be much easier to use. But it would be quicker with wires...especially since both Wii and router are in the living room here.....

Anyway, wireless card is installed again and working. I tried my old one and Windows didn't recognise it, so I gave up on it and I suspect it will never work again. Not on my computer anyway. I am so selling this computer as soon as I can and getting a laptop. All I use it for at home is stuff on the Internet, and I don't need a big computer for that. I even have a buyer for this computer when I'm done, so that's good as well.

So that's my rant for tonight. Except to advise you all to go to Micks blog and watch the intro to Mysterious Cities of Gold. If you're the right age it will take you back to a mystical time of cartoons, packed lunches and mystery. Well, it did with me anyway :)
