Last blog before Christmas!

As the title says, I don't think I'll get another chance to blog before Christmas. So this could be a little long...good thing I can type crazy fast :)

Ok, I went to York. Got on the train, pretty cold but blue sky. After we got through Manchester we suddenly went into this big patch of fog...which seemed to cover the entire North East of England. To say the least, it was bitterly cold in York. Bitterly. In fact, so cold the very first thing I did was buy a ski-beanie and gloves, just to stay above freezing. It was that cold. As with most of the towns I've wandered through here in England, they had markets on in the middle of town. They're generally pretty good, so it's not too much of a hassle to wander around them.

Next thing I encountered was the cathedral. Thanks to the narrow streets it was kind of a shock to come around a corner and then suddenly there is this great big cathedral staring at you. It's pretty big. That's the impression it gives. It took me around 15 minutes to walk around it, but I was going slow and taking photos, so that's not a good indication. When it was built it must have been even more impressive, I reckon more so then the castle. That could just be me though. I wasn't the only tourist around, as I got asked to take a photo of a couple here. First time for everything, thank god for digital cameras as it's just point and shoot. And I didn't get my thumb in the way of the lens, as I have a habit of doing.

After that, I passed by the Jorvik viking museum (I think Jorvik was a viking king who invaded in 830ad or something) which I didn't have time to see (bit of a shame really, it looked interesting) on the way to the castle. Or what I thought was the castle. What it actually is is a museum now, with a tower all that is left. It does stand on a hill all on it's own, so I can see why it has been left alone. It's a ruin now, but from the top you get some quite good views of the country side. I also got asked to take the photo of two german tourists. I think they were german, I'm not really sure. I had to take two photos as I did get my thumb in the way of this one :)

York Musuem/Castle is the first museum I've paid to get into, and I think it was actually worth it. I also have the ability to go back any time in a year for free as I pay tax over here (I assume I will anyway), but I'm not sure it was that good. It did have a lot of history, and it was quite interesting to see all the different period living rooms side by side. Worth a trip if you're in town.

Also, I bought my own christmas present this year, a digital camera. It takes some really nice photos compared to my phone, so I'm quite happy with it. I don't have any photos worth uploading yet, so you can't compare them, but trust me on the fact they are :) Actually, that's a lie as I have a nice one of the Christmas tree (it's real) in our living room but the camera is at home and I'm at work. So you'll just have to wait till next year.

Going to Uncle David's for Christmas, and then on to London until the 31, then Brighton for a couple of days and then back at work. Should be quite busy, but I'm looking forward to it. Expect a very long update when I get back, I'm thinking about actually keeping a diary as it may be that jam-packed I won't remember most of it.

Last of all, Merry Christmas everybody. If you're in Australia, I hope it's not too hot for you (or that the air con doesn't break down). Just think of me over here sitting in front of a fire drinking mulled wine and eating lots. I'll probably be asleep when everyone else is enjoying Christmas, but then you'll all be asleep while I'm enjoying mine...time zones are fun aren't they? Have a good one!
