Bristol - Details

Alright. We left Friday night and got back Sunday night. It was good to have enough time to do everything I wanted for a change instead of rushing around like I normally do. So we stayed at a hotel that I booked, and forgot to find out where it was relative to the train station we got in at. As we came in late at night there wasn't much light to see stuff apart from the neon that is everywhere in most cities. So we tried to find a map to find our way around. None of them helped, but since I knew the station was near the hotel, we decided to go for a walk and find it. And we did. At the bottom of the driveway out of the station.

Next day we worked out what we wanted to do. Jamie, who I went with is a fan of street art, so a lot of walking to look at stencils and stickers was the order of the day. That and Arnolfini, which is an art gallery. I was after seeing the bridge, but that was Sunday. So we walked around to find the museum, and completely missed the sign to it. We saw it the next day, and that would have saved us 10 minutes or so. In the end the gallery wasn't worth it, they had a display on Persoplis and also some pictures done by some photographer, who's name I've already forgotten. Still worth a visit since we were in the area, and it's probably better during the week...probably. After that we wanted to go up to the top of Cabot Tower (if anyone knows how to pronounce that I'd like to hear from them) so we found the park that was in. But the tower was shut, which was a shame as it was a really good day and we could have got some great shots. So instead we sat down in the sun after taking some shots of bits of park. At that point I noticed the spy.

Obviously she wasn't a spy, but she wanted to look like she was. You can see the shots in the Flickr gallery. As we were discussing what she was about, spy number 2 came across the path in front of us. We were certain they were together, but she didn't move for a while after that. Eventually she got up and left from under the pole she was standing under. We were about to get up when she came across the same path in front of us. So I followed her by staying behind a handy copse of trees and got another shot of her. So I headed back to where we were sitting and then Spy number 2 came past again. But she'd already left so we followed spy number 2 instead. Eventually he stopped and started scanning the hill, and we noticed spy number 1 meeting her contact. Spy number 2 took notes on the contact. And that was about it. Very weird.

After that we headed up to Gloucester Street to find some more street art and have lunch. Found quite a bit which was good, and we also went past the Christmas steps...not quite as exciting as I'd hoped they'd be. I'm sure that was the wrong time of year probably. One last thing that we saw on the way back was dancing seagulls. I will add a video to a youtube account (which I haven't yet created) just to show you what I mean. Very odd and very funny. Make sure you have sound on for the video :)

That was pretty much it...there was a lot of walking involved. Good dinner that night at the Italian place next to the restaurant, ate far too much. Really. But it was very good and definitely worth it. Then there was sleep.

Unfortunately we then got woken by a fire alarm in the morning. So we went downstairs (all five flights) only to be told that it was all over and we could go back in. So we went back to bed. When we finally felt like breakfast, went downstairs and then the fire alarm went off. Again. So we got kicked out of the hotel for about 10 seconds before they let us back in again. But eventually we got it all sorted and it was time to head off to the Bridge.

And I've now uploaded the photos of it :)

We walked past the SS Great Britain. Not something I really wanted to see. Neither did Jamie so we kept going. I decided that we should take the Avon trail along the river and then head up to the bridge. Which turned out to be a mistake as there is no stairs up on that side of the gorge. So we instead took a track through the forest. A muddy track through the forest. A mountainous steep muddy track through a wintery cold forest. Eventually we got to the top. Very expensive area. And then there is the bridge. Quite impressive how high above the gorge it is. Then we also had a look at the observatory, and there is a tunnel underneath it to a lookout in the side of the gorge. The walk to the lookout through the narrow tunnel was better then the lookout to be honest, but well worth the price of admission. Then there was the slide down the side of the hill. Another video to add...lots of fun. Found a nice little cafe to have lunch at as well. Not much else to talk about in Bristol that's really worth mentioning. Highly recommended place to go. I thought it was worth it anyway. But this has to be a new record getting my blog updated and pictures up only a day after getting home....very odd for me! Have a good week all, AFL training starts Sunday. I'm Big Kev excited :)

Jamie is my girlfriend. I met her on Australia Day at the Uluru bar where apparently I impressed her with my dancing. She's also American and we have fun making fun of each others accent. You can find a photo on Flickr if you like....

Aussie Rules training starting up?? Awesome!! Is it still below 0 degrees at the times you'll be training? Sounds like fun!

I looked at Jamie's profile pic on Facebook you told me about the other day and I must admit I couldn't see it that well. Looking at her in that photo on Flickr she looks hauntingly familiar. I've been looking at it for a bit and I reckon I've finally nailed it... she looks fairly similar to this girl a couple of floors down at work. Weird.

Btw you really need to start using Photo sets or something to group latest updates together... I'm finding it hard to figure out which are the new ones.

They've all got Bristol in the name? They're the latest photos if you click the link that I've just added? Besides, I'm only allowed 3 sets without paying money so that's the real reason :)

Time to say bye bye to Flickr then and use Picasa... sooooo much better...

Picasa is owned by Google. I don't want to get rid of the MS monopoly only to have it replaced by Google. There is a reason to my madness....
