Weekend that was

Well, my plans didn't come through, so I spent the weekend in Warrington/Manchester. Friday night was a St Patricks day party, saturday was a wipe-out because of that and Sunday was AFL. It appears I'm being groomed as a key position player up front. Sure that's where they stick the useless guy, but that means goals dammit! Lots of goals, I'm going for the Coleman medal :) I just need to learn how to catch and I'll be fine. I'm pretty good at knocking it down even if I don't catch it, so that's a good thing. I also did a bit of defensive work, but they had me matched up on a guy of similar talent so on the long lead I think we both nearly killed each other. My favourite bit was when he was attacking, he didn't quite get to the ball and dived to try and get it, so when he fell over and then scrambled for the ball I just pushed him in the back so he couldn't move. Dead set free kick, but funny.

So it's either that or ruck. I think lack of fitness will tell in my race to get into the midfield. I also spent Sunday doing a first draft of my dream team. Not only is it over budget but 3 of my players are out injured. Oops. So it's back to the drawing board, and also to see whether I want to get rid of any of my forwards. I don't want to but that is where a lot of money is tied up at the moment. So we'll see how it goes tonight, I'll need to go through the injury lists and work out what who has to go. And then do my reading in some other places which I haven't looked at yet. Hopefully it will be competitive by the time the season rolls around. Not being around a whole bunch of people obsessed with the game and picking things up just by listening to conversations is something, I'm sure, that will hurt me this season. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't try.

Apart from that, same old same old really. Happy Easter to all in case I don't put anything up before then.

Isn't it funny how in contested situations, in the heat of the moment, you act instinctively and do something against the rules? Like your push in the back.

You immediately know you did the wrong thing but at that second it was the obvious thing to do so you did it.

Makes you feel for the pro players who get ridiculed for stupid mistakes when most of the time they're just guilty of following instinct like we are.

Glad to hear your training is progressing. Even better that you think you're being groomed for the forward line. That's where the fun is after all :)

Although I dispute they shove the "useless guy" down there...
