Ramblings of a diseased mind

So, to start todays blog, lets answer a question from a loyal reader,
who we shall call J. J asks, 'What is the state of that anyway?'.
Where 'that' is how long I'm going to stay in Europe for. Well, I've
decided to be here at least a year, probably more. I'm slowly getting
more organised with everything, as shown by buying a car and booking a
holiday. There are a whole lot of Aussie Rules games planned, and as
they're away that involves visiting another city. Generally. Despite
being disappointed at the lack of anyone to go travelling with (most
people have already done it, or don't want to, and I'm yet to meet the
other lot, damn their oily hides) that's not going to hold me back!
Europe here I come. Coming into summer when the weather is good I
think I'll be looking at northern Europe, Stockholm, Rotterdam, those
sorts of places. Southern Europe (where it's warm) can wait for the
colder months when I will appreciate it more.

In sad news (to me anyway), my stuff from home is starting to wear out
noticeably. The backpack, which has lasted me since the last year of
high school is starting to go. Given the way I treat it I'm happy with
11 years out of it to be honest. So that's a good excuse to upgrade to
a proper travel backpack, which I shall do...sometime. It'll last a
bit longer :) My shoes are also on the way out. One have a big hole at
the back, and others have nothing left at the back. Very sad, but it
is time for some new shoes. I just don't want to go shopping really
which is why I keep putting it off.

Really enjoying being part of a club again. I am officially a ruckman
now, they're talking about specialist training for me....I'm not too
sure about that. We had a good session on Tuesday, a bit of 2 on 2 and
my team won the majority of the contests. Good couple of shoulder
barges and tackles. I did get rag dolled once, so I will need a
tighter jersey. It's all in the name of not getting tackled, not to
show off my bulging guns....really :) Goal kicking is going well,
happy with the accuracy so I'll continue to get rested up front, which
makes me happy :)

Hmmm. I just read that article I posted again, and it says, right at
the bottom, 'Professor Don Aitkin, historian and political scientist,
is a fellow of three learned societies.' Which means what exactly? No
one knows. Unless you're a member of the learned society I guess.
Sure, these things I would normally google and look up, but in the
context of the article it is kind of odd.

I also spent some time trying to find a blog from an old friend. And
it's amazing how many people have started blogs and then never keep
them going. I don't mean as often as I am to keep it alive, but just
plain stop. Are they all on facebook or something, and I missed the
train? I don't think that's right, I just think I'm out of the loop.
Sadly (or not in some cases) people drift apart. It's inevitable, but
still sad at times. Facebook has made the whole finding people again
really easy. It also makes it harder to stay away from others. I guess
it all balances out in the long run.

Ah well, enough philosophy for one night. I think it's time to go
practise some more guitar before going to bed.

To be a member of a learned society, you have to have a degree, work in the relevant field and pay lots of money.
For it to mean any thing, you need to be a Fellow of a society, not just a member. Fellows actually contribute something to the body of knowledge that the society is concerned with.
It interesting that a political scientist should comment on a physical science question. Science always works by consensus. Mostly right, sometimes wrong and if shown to be wrong then the consensus shifts.

Maybe we should have a comp to try and guess who J is? I reckon that'd be fun! Although there would have to be some sort of prize for the winner of course ;)

Good to hear you have some plans in motion and are enjoying yourself. I reckon that's awesome. Sucks that you're largely winging it solo though mate.

Being part of a club is an awesome thing. I don't know why I left it so late to do it. Specialist training? Interesting. When you come back maybe you could be the 3rds ruckman down @ Yeronga. Boy do we need one. Glad to hear that you're enjoying footy though.

As for blogs not being kept updated I am somewhat guilty of that. I never let mine completely die but I can't see myself getting time to blog much except during work time.

I now have something on every night of the working week... if I get a chance to turn my computer on @ home I'm lucky these days.
