Telemarketers

I hate telemarketers. There's nothing like a cold call to ask if you want to buy something to annoy you. Of course 4wd's annoy me more, but that's a rant for another post. As long time readers may know, I've started a new job. From my original understanding of the job it was to do a health check on people who's phones aren't working. Just in case it matters, I won't mention which phones and which network as they're not very good phones. And I don't want to get fired for breaching confidentiality. Just in case. Anyway, it turns out for those people who are out of warranty (Mobile's have a 12 month warranty) there's not much that can be done to save their phones, so we're 'upgrading' them. What that means is that they have to buy a new phone. It's not as bad as it sounds because generally the old phone does work, just not as well as it should. And the deals are pretty good. So far I've sold 2 phones. I did consider myself a telemarketer, and in a certain way I guess I am. Yet somehow I justify to myself that deep down, I'm doing them a favour by offering them a great deal on a new phone. Or sending them to the repair centre, depending on whether they're in warranty or not. And the 2 people I've sold phones to have been extremely happy to go ahead with the deal. So it's a win win situation all up.

And I'd just like to say that Cameron spends too much time sitting around doing nothing. I read his blog fairly often and still one a hadn't read had skipped off the page.

And test cricket is not exciting, no matter what some cricket die-hards try to tell you. Sure you can sit around getting excited on the last day, but were you like that from the start? Or was it just the tension of the final few overs that could decide everything that was interesting? Sure, you could say that Flintoff had a deciding impact, but so did Kissinger on the Cold War. That wasn't exciting either. Just because it all happened in the same game doesn't necessarily mean the whole game was exciting. Or even the entire concept of test cricket based on one game. There are flukes of nature everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I think test cricket is good for cricket, I just fail to see how a test match can be exciting for the entire length of the game.

Of course, I can find 0-0 draws exciting in soccer as I play goal keeper and love to watch the saves keepers make and to laugh at strikers when they miss the goals. Most other people don't. To each their own I guess.

Anyway, I'm off to try and finish a short story of mine. I don't think it'll ever get finished fully, but we'll see. I have another story just sitting around somewhere ready to be polished and tidied up. Not sure if it makes much sense anymore as it was in response to then current events. But I'm sure it'll still be entertaining. In a small way.

For the record I did the whole match exciting not just the end. Sure I didn't get to watch it all but I can sit for hours and watch Test cricket being played out. Sure there might be bits where not much might be happening but I can never look away because you always know the next wicket, or sweet shot, is just around the corner.

Freke, you blog too much. Granted, I don't read my mates' blogs as often as I should 'cause I'm a geekaholic warcraft junkie now, but this is insanity!

Anyway, I'm working through your catalogue now, and will comment on each that draws attention. In this case I'm just donning my Grammar Nazi moustache and pointing out your misuse of an apostrophe on "Mobile's". That was a plural, man. Not a contraction, not ownership. Be more careful in future, or I shall be forced to taunt you a second time.
