Someone has to do it

Given that someone has to keep this economy going in tough times, Cara and I went up to Edinburgh on the weekend. Ostensibly for the military tattoo, we also spent the time catching up with friends and sleeping. Lots of sleeping.

Getting tickets to the tattoo two weeks before is not easy. Some would say impossible. So instead we got a package deal, 2 nights at the Holiday Inn (next to the Zoo) plus 2 tickets. I managed to get the friday off work, and thanks to contacts within the rail industry, we got return tickets for 5 pounds each. As it's a 3.5 hour trip on the train, that is incredibly value.

It was raining when we got there (not much of a surprise) so we decided to go with a taxi to the hotel rather then figuring out which bus to catch. So did everybody else, so it took nearly an hour until we got a cab. It took a while to get there, but it was definitely worth it as we were very happy with our room. Great view over the golf course opposite and a really nice room.

We had dinner with Zach and Fi who were up there on a holiday as well. They'd spent the day walking around Edinburgh in the rain, so they were more then happy to spend the night in the hotel. We had a lovely dinner (chinese) and evening, and retired to bed ready for a big day on Saturday.

We decided that sleeping was more important, so we did that instead. We did eventually get into town and had a wander around. It was a much better day, so we collected lots of leaflets for shows we couldn't see and enjoyed the atmosphere. The Loch Ness experience was quite interesting, lots of little facts about Loch Ness that I didn't know.

Before the tattoo we had dinner at a little place with 2 of Cara's friends, Irene and Tom. And then it was off to the tattoo. Personally, not being a big fan of bagpipes it wasn't the best evening (mainly the cold) but it was still worth it. The choreography was very impressive.

Then we got the night bus back, had another sleep in and came back home. Sure, we didn't get up to much but it was a mini-holiday and we didn't want to be too busy. Good weekend, looking forward to the next one!

I'm so jealous!!!! I'm going to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Sydney next year, I'm sure it wont be as good as Scotland but good none the less (hopefully)...I on the other hand LOVE bagpipes :-)
