Ok, so we didn't beat Croatia, but who cares, we're through to the final 16. Against Italy. Should be good. Here are my thoughts on some key players.
Zelko Kalac
If his international career (let alone club) isn't over, some serious questions need to be asked. Did not look confident at any point during the game and was solely responsible for the second goal. If you watch the replay of the first goal he pulls his hand back so as not to make the save. I think he should be investigated for match fixing by FIFA
Mark Viduka
Harshly maligned by many, I think he's been playing very well. He's been very heavily marked in and around the box so hasn't had many opportunities but he's doing the job he's been given. Which is to receive the ball at feet and play it to incoming midfielders to pass around. Great player.
Marco Bresciano
Instantly brought a new dimension to the Australian team with his presence at free kicks. Showed Chipperfield how to cross the ball and they caused havoc. Especially with the inclusion of Josh Kennedy. A space needs to be found in the team for Marco so as to allow us to trouble teams from set plays. If only we had a space.....
Brett Emerton
...and the space emerges. Has been given 3 very stupid yellow cards in the last two games. Two for dissent and one for time wasting. Can run all day but that's no good if he's on the sideline. Needs to control his temper if he's going to be an automatic first choice in the team.
And that's enough for one blog. I really need to start doing some work today :)
